We have developed broad technology and intellectual property portfolios to support our R&D efforts and business strategies.
Our intellectual property portfolio includes over 160 worldwide patents and applications, including over 60 United States patents and applications. Our patents and applications span the full spectrum of our technologies and their applications, including nanotechnology and polymeric material compositions, substrate and semiconductor component manufacturing and integration, electronic circuit and system design and simulation, and ESD protection at the chip-level, substrate-level and device-level. We also own a number of trademarks, including Shocking Technologies™, the Shocking Technologies logo, XStatic™, XSeed™, VSD™, and VSDM™, some of which are subject to pending trademark applications in various jurisdictions.
Our technology portfolio includes a wide range of technologies, know-how and software that we use to develop and commercialize our advanced voltage switchable dielectric polymer composite materials. As part of our business strategy, we believe that addressing ESD protection at the substrate-level, component-level and/or device-level provides better and more cost-effective solutions for the electronic industry. Our technology and services consequently merge together design, simulation and manufacturing considerations to achieve comprehensive ESD protection of electronic devices and components.
Our VSD™ materials can be integrated in a wide range of substrates, including printed circuit boards (PCBs), semiconductor packaging, LED substrates, integrated circuit (IC) substrates, and other interconnection platforms. Applications of our technology portfolio include ESD protection of circuit elements, electronic components and electronic devices, including semiconductor chips and integrated circuits (e.g., microprocessors, controllers, memory chips, RF components and subsystems, baseband processors, systems on a chip (SOC), flip chips, etc.), light emitting diodes (LEDs), LCD, LED and OLED arrays, displays and devices (e.g., displays for television sets or consumer electronic devices), MEMS chips, and others. Electronic devices that can be effectively protected against ESD damage using our VSD™ materials include mobile phones, electronic tablets, electronic readers (e-readers), computers (e.g., a laptops), television sets and video displays, music players (e.g., a portable MP3 music player), personal health management devices (e.g., a cardiac, temperature or motion monitor), LED lighting modules, satellites, military equipment, aviation instruments, and marine equipment.
Our VSD™ materials are intended to provide comprehensive ESD protection for such applications and electronic devices. Our VSD™ family of materials includes the XStatic ™ materials and the XSeed™ materials. The XStatic™ materials are designed to be seamlessly integrated in substrates using existing manufacturing and integration processes. The XSeed™ materials are intended for an even broader range of applications, including both ESD protection and electroplating and material deposition as part of the manufacturing process of electronic devices, substrates and device packing.
We work closely with OEMs and IDMs to facilitate integration of our VSD™ materials into their products. As part of this close collaboration, we provide various services to our customers and we license to our customers various relevant aspects of our intellectual property and technology portfolios for the applications and devices described above. Our services and licensing program includes technology disclosures (including design guides and manufacturing know-how), manufacturing support and certification services, design assistance and other design services, technical consultation and training in connection with our VSD™ technologies and applications, software licensing (including software for simulation and design), and intellectual property licenses (including, as appropriate, the licensing of trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights and patents).
